Why MyDirection exists

A vision should become clearer as you live it

Built by a small team in Australia, for people who want a practice that survives contact with a real week.

The short answer

MyDirection is a manifestation and vision board app made by Reconnect Digital, a small independent studio. It exists because static vision boards stop being useful the moment your life changes, and because the tools that adapt usually pay for themselves by monetizing what you write.

01

The problem we kept running into

Every goal tool we tried failed in one of two directions. Planners demanded a fixed structure (projects, milestones, dates) which works beautifully until the plan is wrong, at which point maintaining it becomes a second job you resent. Vision boards demanded nothing at all, which works beautifully for about a fortnight, at which point the board becomes wallpaper.

The gap between them is where most people actually live, knowing roughly where you are going, you cannot yet specify the route, and the thing you most need is a small, repeated nudge that adjusts as you learn. Nothing we tried occupied that space, so we built for it.

02

The claim we are willing to defend

There is a version of this category that promises the universe will rearrange itself around your thoughts. We are not building that, and we will not write marketing copy that implies it. The evidence does not support it, and the belief does real damage. It turns ordinary setbacks into evidence of insufficient faith.

The narrower claim is well enough supported to build a product on. People who make goals specific rather than vague, who attach intentions to concrete situations, who contrast the desired future against present obstacles rather than only fantasizing about the outcome, and who review what actually happened, do follow through more reliably. That is a modest set of mechanisms. It is also enough.

So MyDirection is designed around the mechanisms rather than the mysticism, so attention in the morning, a specific action sized to the day, reflection at night, and a record of evidence you can look back at when motivation is unavailable. Read do manifestation apps work for how we think about the evidence boundary in practice.

03

Why privacy came first, structurally

The content in this app is not preference data. It is what somebody wants, what they are afraid of, and what they did not manage to do this week. Building the business model on top of that material would have set the product's incentives against its users on day one.

So the order of decisions was to charge for the app, then design the privacy architecture, then build features that fit inside it. That order is why there is no free tier, why photo images are never uploaded for generation, why analytics is off by default, and why the on-device mode is a real mode rather than a degraded fallback. It is also why some things are missing. We do not generate images of your imagined future, because doing it well would mean sending a description of your private life to an image model.

04

Built for the Apple ecosystem, deliberately

MyDirection is a native iPhone and Apple Watch app rather than a cross-platform shell. That decision costs us the Android market and buys three things we wanted, which are on-device generation via Apple's model, genuine Lock Screen and Home Screen widgets, and a Watch app that can show today's direction in the two seconds you have while walking.

The Watch surface turned out to matter more than we expected. The moment you need your direction is usually not the moment you are holding your phone. It is the walk to work, the queue, the pause before a conversation you have been avoiding. A wrist glance fits there. Opening an app does not.

05

How we write about competitors

We publish comparison and guide content, and we make a product in the category we are writing about. That is a conflict of interest, and the responsible response is disclosure plus a method, not a pretence of neutrality.

  • Every comparison page states that MyDirection publishes it.
  • We do not describe an app as tested unless a named person used a stated version for a stated period.
  • We do not infer privacy behaviour from marketing language; we read the policy and say when a question is unanswered.
  • Prices are captured in a named App Store region with a date attached.
  • We will recommend a competitor where it is the better fit, including on pages where that costs us the sale.

Our scoring model and testing conditions are published at how we review apps. Where we have not yet completed a hands-on test, the page says so rather than implying one.

06

The constraints we accepted, and what they cost

Most product decisions here were subtractions, and each one has a price we are aware of.

DecisionWhat it costs usWhy we kept it
No free tierA much smaller top of funnelFree requires advertising, data monetization, or a paywall at the point of value
One direction at a timeUsers who want a life dashboardTwo directions produce an ambiguous daily step, and ambiguous steps do not get taken
No streak counterA well-known retention leverBroken streaks are a designed reason to quit
No image generationAn impressive demo and a marketing assetIt requires shipping a description of private hopes to an image model
iPhone and Watch onlyThe entire Android marketOn-device generation, real widgets and watchOS do not port
No social layerOrganic growth through sharingUnfiltered reflection does not survive an audience

We list these because a product page that presents every omission as a principle is hiding the trade-offs. Each row is a real cost. We think each one buys something worth more, and you are entitled to disagree, how to choose an app is written to help you do exactly that.

07

Why it is called MyDirection

The name is a decision about scope. A goal is a destination and it can be wrong. You can reach it and find nothing there, or discover halfway that it belonged to somebody else. A direction is a heading, and a heading can be adjusted without the adjustment counting as failure.

That distinction runs through the product. The app asks for a direction rather than a target, treats a changed direction as information rather than as a reset, and asks whether the direction still fits when your own reflections suggest it might not. Nothing in it is designed around arriving.

The possessive half matters too. The direction is yours, including the decision to change it. The app suggests, surfaces and records; it does not decide, and the moment it started deciding it would have removed the reflective work that makes the practice worth doing at all.

08

Who makes it

MyDirection is built by Reconnect Digital Pty Ltd, an independent studio. There is no venture funding behind it and no growth target that requires the app to become an attention product. The subscription is the whole business model, which is a constraint we chose on purpose.

If something here is wrong, unclear, or does not match what the app actually does, we want to know. Corrections get made visibly. The contact address is on every legal page and a person reads it.

One thing we have not done yet, and would rather state than have noticed, which is that our pages currently carry a team byline rather than a named editor. A named responsible editor and tester is a requirement of our own review method, and it needs to be in place before we publish any scored comparison of competitor apps. Until then, our comparison pages are framed as decision frameworks and say so on the page.

Common questions

Who makes MyDirection?

Reconnect Digital Pty Ltd, a small independent studio. The app is funded entirely by subscriptions.

Is there an Android version?

Not currently. The app depends on Apple's on-device model, native widgets and watchOS, none of which port cleanly.

Do you claim manifestation works?

No. We claim that specific goals, implementation intentions, mental contrasting, consistent action and accurate reflection help people follow through. That is a narrower claim and it is the one the product is built on.

Are you funded by advertising or data?

No. The subscription is the only revenue. There is no advertising SDK and nothing you write is sold.

Where is the company based?

Reconnect Digital Pty Ltd is an Australian company. Prices quoted across the site are US App Store prices unless stated otherwise, because that is the largest market for the app.

Will there be an iPad version?

Not a priority. The practice is designed around glanceable surfaces and moments away from a desk, which is where a phone and a watch do better than a tablet.

How do I report an error on this site?

Email the address on our privacy policy. Material corrections are made visibly rather than quietly edited.
