What MyDirection costs, stated plainly

The plans

The annual plan is the one the product is designed around, and the pricing reflects that rather than hiding it. A vision board that adapts to your reflections needs reflections to adapt to, and the interesting behaviour starts somewhere in the second month. The weekly plan exists because some people genuinely want to run a short, defined experiment, and pretending otherwise would just push them to cancel in frustration.

Every plan includes everything, which means both generation modes, the Apple Watch app, widgets and complications, the full board, unlimited reflections and evidence, and every future update to the daily practice. There is no premium tier that unlocks the part you actually wanted.

How the 3-day free trial works

Eligible new subscribers get three days of full access before being charged. Trial eligibility is determined by Apple, based on your Apple ID and whether you have used a trial for this app before.

1. You choose a plan and start the trial. Apple confirms it; no charge is made at this point.
2. You get complete access for three days. Both privacy modes, the Watch app, the whole loop.
3. If you do nothing, the trial converts to the plan you selected and your Apple ID is charged when it ends.
4. If you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, you are not charged and you keep access until it expires.

Three days is short. We would rather say so than dress it up. It is long enough to complete the loop several times and to see whether the daily rhythm fits your life, and it is not long enough to see the board adapt in an interesting way, because adaptation needs more input than three reflections. If you want to evaluate the adaptive behaviour specifically, the annual plan and a calendar reminder at day 60 is a more realistic way to do it than hoping a trial reveals something it structurally cannot.

Why there is no free tier

Free tiers in this category are usually funded in one of three ways, by advertising, by data, or by a paywall placed at the exact moment the app becomes useful. All three shape the product, and none of them in a direction we wanted.

Advertising requires an attention loop, which is the opposite of a one-minute practice. Data monetization requires collecting the content you write, which is incompatible with a privacy choice that means anything. And a free tier that stops at the point of value produces the worst version of this app. A board you can build but not use, or a practice that ends at the paywall each morning.

So MyDirection is a paid product with one price and one set of features. You are the customer. That sentence gets used loosely, so here is the concrete version, which is that the only revenue is the subscription, there is no advertising SDK in the app, analytics is off unless you turn it on, and nothing you write is sold or used to build a profile. Is it worth it? A direct comparison

At $59.99 a year, MyDirection costs about the same as a month of most gym memberships, or four coffees a year less than a typical meditation app's annual plan. That framing is a sales trick and you should distrust it, so here is a more useful one. It is a recurring cost, and recurring costs deserve a recurring benefit.

MyDirection is probably worth it if you already keep some kind of goal practice and find it decays. The notes app you stopped opening, the journal with four entries, the physical board on a wall you stopped seeing. The value is in the daily loop being short enough to survive and responsive enough to stay relevant.

It is probably not worth it if what you want is a beautiful static collage, an image generator, guided meditations, or a full journaling app with tags and search. Those exist, several of them are excellent, and some are free. We would rather you spend the $59.99 on the right one. • Export and complete deletion from inside the app.
• Every future update to the daily practice, at no additional cost.

What is not included, because it does not exist, is image generation of your imagined future, narrated audio programmes, multiple simultaneous boards, an Android app, and any form of social sharing. The app page explains why each of those was left out.

Subscription terms

• Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase, or when a free trial ends.
• Subscriptions renew automatically unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
• Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours of the end of the current period.
• You can manage or cancel subscriptions in your Apple ID account settings after purchase.
